Set in a hamlet in the north of the department of Vienne, just south of the Loire Valley, this 18th century cottage offers a secluded garden of approximately one acre. The property is located in two distinct gardens seperated by a tuffeau escarpment with troglodyte caves; the lower garden contains the house and is populated mostly with fruit trees, offering a shady haven from the outside world; the upper garden, mostly grassed, contains an ancient windmill from which there are fine views over three French departments.
The cottage has two rooms downstairs, a living dining room with a grand stone fireplace and a second lounge with bed settee which can be used as an extra bedroom if necessary. The kitchen, accessed from the living/dining room, is equiped with washing machine and microwave etc etc. Upstairs there are two bedrooms, one with double bed other with two single beds seperated by the bathroom. The three rooms upstairs are connected by a mezzinine walkway.
The cottage is ideally situated between the Loire valley, with its many chateaux, and Poitiers famed for its Gallo-Roman heritage and Futuroscope. Locally there is the 'Green Line', the former railway between Chatellerault and Loudun offers 40km of traffic free cycling and walking. |
